Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the advantages of family football academic scholarship with volunteerism in the community. First, he was raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon, who lived on their Eufala farm as the youngest of nine kids. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. The trio made All-America. For 1973 Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for just one season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the country. The three seasons he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. Third scholarship he was named the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon was awarded a degree from Education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work throughout his time at college. After graduating, he settled in Tampa playing nine years for the Buccaneers and was an all-pro 3 times before launching a professional career. In 1988, he began working as an Account Relations Officer at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed with the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and also the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. This is why Lee Roy was named one of the most distinguished young men across the United States in 1982 by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing a little over 256 pounds. He was captain of his university team in 1975. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. In 1988 He was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was inducted into it into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989 in 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
